Herstory

Aliya Kan (known as Marty Crown) was born on May 16th, 1993 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Faced with sexism, discrimination, and corruption from an early age, Marty Crown struggled with mental health and turned to music and other mediums of art for solace. Her love of music began with the orchestral score of Luc Besson’s 1997 film The Fifth Element. Her parents, hearing their young daughter sing along to the film, immediately enrolled her in vocal courses. Her creative upbringing continued with training at the theater school Obraz аnd with noted opera and jazz singer Rimma Walter.

After training, Marty Crown quickly broke into her local music scene. Though starting as a frequent electro-pop performer, she soon began collaborating with popular Kazakh rapper Jah Khalib. They released two widely broadcasted singles, “I Walk Along the Streets” аnd “Be With Me”. She also performed as part of the band Universum, as a collaborator of DJ Oz-Cat, аnd with Mongolian-media sensation  Araatan. During this time, she was featured in famous magazines including ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, BLVD, Buro 27/7, L’Officiel аnd was crowned the winner of Samsung’s EDGE Fest 2016.

Having found success in Central Asia, Marty Crown and her husband longed for “new mountains” to tread and relocated to L.A. in 2016. She struggled to keep up with work, raising her newborn, and her art. Around this time, she connected with Silver Gun Records over social media and discussed plans to record her original music.  Though Marty didn’t have the money to record, Silver Gun Records was impressed with her track record, innovation, and dedication, and immediately signed her onto their roster. After four years in LA, her husband sold the company he built, and they moved to San Francisco to work in IT.

Marty Crown released her debut singles, “Nomad Lullaby” and “We Are Here,” along with her EP, Hologram, under the label in spring of 2017. Performing her original music in iconic venues such as The Mint, Molly’s Malone, and Pig ’N Whistle, she is known for her captivating stage presence and has garnered attention from Attack Media Group, and Universal Studios. Marty released her new singles in 2020: “Queen Of Sadness”, “Kisses”, “I Need You Right Now”, “Stay”, and “Mom’s pocket”, together with talented producer Alexis Rodriguez and at the same time she re-started her spiritual journey. She is excited to integrate her spiritual knowledge into her art, and thus to be not just an artist but a healer for her listeners.

“The owner of a magical voice, talented songwriter, composer of “Indie” music and stylist. Marty took vocal classes from the well-known opera and jazz singer Rimma Walter. Philosophy

All colors, all shapes, all angles, all realities, all spaces, and all times – that’s how Marty feels in her electronic ethno music.

To be everywhere, to be everybody. To be.

All roles, all feelings, all emotions – that’s what she wants to pass through, using her mysterious voice and sounds.

Her music is an invitation for all souls who strive to transform from their current reality and focus.

Her roots come from genuine shamans and nomads. So the idea of healing illusions and bewitching freedom is in her fervent blood.

Sometimes she sounds ethnic, tribal, psychedelic.

She dedicates her sounds to the Universe and her listeners are the awakened observers – Neo Shamans as she calls them.

Neo shamans are a caring, giving, conscious army.

Other times she sounds: atmospheric, ambient, alternative.

Her art bypasses systems, algorithms, games, judgments, rules, fears, boundaries, and trying to find a home in the spirits.
